CLOTHES
TO HOME |
| by Kara Perlman Assistant Editor |
The laundry appliance market is inundated with new styles, colors, and technology, bringing machines out of the basement and incorporating them into the home. Laundry appliance makers are providing consumers with machines that may be

conveniently placed into many different rooms in the home as opposed to the familiar basement location. As more consumers wish to place washers and dryers in kitchens or recreational rooms, a need is created for quieter, more compatible machinery.
|
"Today’s laundry market is more segmented and thus requires a broader product range, including different dimensions and capacities, cosmetics, and features, to adapt to all lifestyles."
|
To meet this consumer request, Equator developed the Equator Laundry System as a free-standing machine. The system can also be portable, if necessary, and a quick-connect water system is offered to allow easy movement from one location to another. | |
|
Past machine designs have been similar across companies, but now, exciting colors, styles, and accessories are popping up all over the market. |

COMING CLEAN
As laundry appliances move out of basements and laundry rooms, companies are now engineering products with less complicated power, venting, and water supply needs. |
|
| Art Lundy, vice president, national sales, Equator Corporation, Evanston, IL, explains, "We have many customers who, when given the choice, would rather have a laundry system in the kitchen, in place of a dishwasher. This happens when space is limited and one must choose between one or the other." |
|
Mr. Lundy of Equator Corporation points out that in addition the energy and water savings his company's H-axis design offers, the machine requires less detergent. "This provides cost efficiency for the consumer and is easier on the environment," says Mr. Lundy
